Terminal Lug Data and Conduit Provisions for Heavy Duty Switches

Terminal lug compatibility, conductor capacities, NEC wire-bending requirements, optional compression lug configurations, and conduit trade size openings for 30-1200 A safety switches.

Terminal Lug Data for Heavy Duty Safety Switches

This table defines terminal lug and conductor compatibility for heavy duty safety switches rated 30-1200 A. It identifies the permitted number of conductors per phase and neutral, NEC Table 312.6 wire-bending space requirements, and compatible lug wire ranges. The data includes aluminum/copper conductor support, maximum conductor sizes up to 750 kcmil, and optional factory or field-installed compression lug kits, including copper-only configurations where available. Higher switch ratings support larger conductor sizes and additional conductors, expanding installation capacity and wiring flexibility.

note

30–100 A safety switches are suitable for 60 °C or 75 °C conductors. 200–1200 A safety switches are suitable for 75 °C conductors.

Footnotes

  1. Hubbell Versa-Crimp™ unless otherwise noted.
  2. For NEMA Type 1, 12/3R, 12K and 4/4X/5 stainless steel switches only.
  3. Order from Thomas and Betts.
  4. H60XFA and H60XFA1212 — use 75°C copper wire only. #6 AWG copper wire required for 60 A rating.
  5. H100XFA and H100XFA1212 — use 75°C copper wire only. #3 AWG copper wire required for 100 A rating.
  6. H225XJG and H225XJGAA — use 75°C copper wire only. Lug wire range is #3 AWG – 350 kcmil. Not UL Listed due to inadequate wire bending space (5” on ON end, 6” on OFF end).
  7. Maximum wire bending space allows for (1) 600 kcmil or (2) 300 kcmil Al/Cu on NEMA Type 4/4X/5 stainless steel and NEMA Type 12 switches.
  8. Order two PK516KN mounting kits when installing VCEL030516H1 or VCELC030516H1 lugs. Only one kit is required on 2 pole switches. PK516KN consists of (4) 5/16-18 Keps Nuts.
